This video will show you how to improve the recovery part of the layback roll. If you are using your abdominal muscles to bring your body up it probably looks like this, and no matter how many hours you spend practicing it doesn’t get much better. If you do this, you don’t have a very strong roll, and you will probably end up going for a bad swim if you capsize in rough water. It not only looks sloppy, it feels unreliable, and it is.
On the other hand if you learn to use your back muscles to pull your body up, you will be in control, and will come up without effort every time. This feels 5 times easier to me.
